ABSTRACT

A device that will allow separation from the grid, such as anti-islanding, which means separating from the grid when the grid is down. Often with ac coupling of photovoltaic (PV) systems a battery inverter/charger will perform this function. The main reason for putting the breaker adjacent to the PV connection is that no one can argue that taps could be installed between the PV connection and the subpanel that could overcurrent the feeder conductor downstream of the PV connection. With a PV interactive inverter, the danger of short circuits comes from the utility, rather than the inverter. Hybrid systems permitted with interactive inverters. Hybrid system example would be adding generator, wind or hydro to a PV system. In the International Electrotechnical Commission, a PV system is called a PV generator, but in the National Electric Code the authors talking about a spinning motor that makes electricity. Some PV systems are made into hybrid systems by adding a generator.
