ABSTRACT

"Values education" is a new pedagogical slogan that has rapidly spread around the world. "Value" is a currently fashionable term used for various quite different things. The slogan "values education" is an educational-political response to the cultural crisis in which liberal, enlightened, secularized societies are mired. The cultural crisis simultaneously concerns the individual's value consciousness and society's value order. The value order is characterized by value pluralism and transience, i.e., by the coexistence and clash, the rapid change of various norms, ideals, pictures of man and action guidelines. The value consciousness of many people is characterized by value change and valuation uncertainty, i.e., by changes in their value attitudes and uncertainty on the values those specific goods, aims and duties have in comparison with others. "Values education" is only a new name that conceptually summarizes old and enduring educational tasks.
