Th e stalemate at the UN General Assembly’s fi fth emergency special session during the summer of 1967 prompted Egyptian Foreign Minister Mahmoud Riad to request an urgent meeting of the Security Council, demanding a full Israeli withdrawal to the June 4 lines. On November 7, a three-power draft resolution cosponsored by India, Mali, and Nigeria, known as the Afro-Asian draft, was submitted to the Security Council.
