ABSTRACT
In one of the greatest public relations manipulations of all time, conservative think tanks, pundits, and politicians have been able to convince themselves and the general public that the real elites in our society are the liberal media, universities, and political officials. First of all, many professors do tend to vote as moderates or Democrats, and so it is true that they do hold progressive values and beliefs; the problem is that once they enter into their jobs, they often do not act in a liberal or progressive fashion. The ultimate ideology that is produced by this return to social Darwinism is a conservative effort in naturalizing the status quo. Many universities today are unknowingly helping to produce and circulate a new conservative version of social Darwinism that helps to rationalize inequality and naturalize capitalistic competition. Liberal universities were then undermined mostly from within when liberal professors transformed public institutions through a focus on private rewards.
