ABSTRACT

[Abstract: This is not a book on spelling reform. However, it is important that readers understand that reform has been proposed for English for several centuries. The pros and cons of reform are debated, before the three types of reformed spelling are discussed. Supplanting reforms replace the current spelling system with a completely new and different alphabet. Augmenting reforms use the current alphabet, but supplement the existing alphabet with some new letters. Standardizing reforms keep the existing alphabet, but change the way the current letters are used. Sample texts in reformed spelling are given.]
