ABSTRACT

This chapter places my study within the previous historiographical traditions and provides a detailed overview of the major groups of the sources used in the thesis. It begins with an overview of relevant secondary literature and the development of the state of art with the analytical reflections on its current stage, which is followed by a discussion of extant sources by groups, with a particular focus on the main source for the research—the books of accounts, Massariae Caffae for the years 1381, 1423, and 1461.
