In the last chapter we focused on the time travel perspective of showing how Strategy can become more dynamic. But an equally powerful way of introducing a different dynamic into strategic planning is through “alien thinking.” This was one of the very earliest of the Cunning Checklists in Chapter 4, namely:

“Number 6: Imagine that you are actually an alien! Many industries have such peculiar and idiosyncratic ways of doing

things that entering into an “alien mind-set” will inevitably generate radical ideas. By re-examining this from an extreme, even an alien, perspective this can give you a very different perspective indeed, too.”
