ABSTRACT

Mastering is sometimes presented as a dark art, which is capable of extraordinary things beyond the grasp of the average engineer. In reality, it is a final check of your mix by someone with experience and a first-class setup. Your mix must be in good shape to make the most of the process, and just as important: the mastering engineer needs to know what you’re after. Good communication not only helps to find the right approach; it also allows you to get valuable feedback on your work.
