ABSTRACT
When one think of distribution for his film, there are a number of markets to consider: TVOD including iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, Vimeo On Demand known as Transactional Video on Demand because people pay per view; subscription VOD digital streaming, Netflix; cable video on demand (VOD); and semi-theatrical screening fees. This chapter then discusses the fairly comprehensive lists of documentary distributors; rights issues which vary and some distributors will allow to create a hybrid distribution plan which affords more control. Some of the largest distributors that offer comprehensive packages including theatrical are: Magnolia, Sony Picture Classics, Oscilloscope, Participant. Strand Releasing, Music Box Films, IFC, The Orchard, and Janus. some distributers whose offer hybrid rights deals are: Bullfrog Films—educational only; and Passion River—VOD, educational, home video, DVD, not all exclusive.
