ABSTRACT

The objective of this exercise is to highlight the things in life that the participant feels weighed down by. These may be responsibilities, broken friendships, people threatening to take him to court, too many demands on his time, worries, the vital things we put off doing that need doing to avoid a painful consequence. The opposite are things in our life that energise us, delight us, give meaning to our lives. Heightening awareness of the burdens and the energisers in the participant’s life gives him vital reflection time to a) think of ways of unburdening, and no longer carrying around so much ‘excess baggage’ in his daily life, and b) think how to give more time and energy to the things that really matter.
