ABSTRACT

Despite its relatively short history, Singapore has established itself as one of the world’s most competitive economies, with the Singaporean state playing a crucial role in directing and driving the city-state’s meteoric economic rise. This chapter will delve into the developmental state of Singapore by discussing the various components of Singapore’s developmental state model as well as the historical and socio-political precedents that have driven its adoption of the model. In doing so, this chapter concludes that Singapore has emerged to become an archetypal developmental state.
