ABSTRACT

With the global economy increasingly digitized and innovation-centric, developmental states are more often turning to ‘smart’ technologies such as data analytics and the Internet of things to stimulate economic growth, whether through enhancing innovation and productivity or fostering new industries for such technologies. This chapter will focus on the smart city transformations of Singapore and Hong Kong. It will provide a broad overview of the two cities' smart city strategies as well as the various policy initiatives that have been implemented in support of these strategies.
