ABSTRACT
In this chapter, the author recapitulates the debates that occurred in the Middle Ages about faith, truth and reasoning from a psychological viewpoint. The most important issue is that of ‘vicariousness’ or the two-way approach to truth: the way of faith and the way of reasoning. St Thomas Aquinas sought a subtle equation between the logos of Aristotle and Christianity.
