ABSTRACT

Let’s say that I work in a factory, the factory is taken over by new ownership, and I’m told that I must triple my output, which is actually a physical impossibility. I try as hard as I can, I manage to double my output, and I am told that I will probably be fired for “not meeting expectations.” I despair; I grow anxious; I stop sleeping well; I fight with my mate and yell at my children; and I arrive at the office of some designated helper—a clinical psychologist, my parish priest, a life coach, a Jungian analyst—looking for help. What will help me?
