ABSTRACT

There is an art to conducting investigations that requires knowledge, skill, expertise and experience. To be successful the investigator must also have a strong fundamental understanding of the industry he/she works within and the issue being investigated. The gaming industry poses a unique challenge to investigators due to the scope of potential issues and types of losses that may occur. In gaming, the investigator may investigate a case of retail theft one day, a case of cheating at gambling the next, and at the end of the week be involved in the review of a potential conflict of evidence involving an executive. In this chapter we discuss the components of a properly conducted investigation.
