ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses important investigative concepts, beginning with the need for proper training, use of proper investigative tools and fundamental techniques when investigating. Casino security and surveillance personnel don’t normally receive investigative training. Some personnel may have had such training or experience from prior careers in law enforcement or the military but most of our protective personnel do not. Investigative best practices can assist the new investigator with investigating appropriately and effectively. Tools such as video investigation and surveillance tradecraft are used heavily in the casino hotel environment and can provide a wealth of information and leads and can be the investigator’s best friend.
