ABSTRACT

Gaming crime, while based in traditional motivations such as greed and attempting to get something for nothing, differs from normal criminal activity in the methods used to commit the theft. Gaming has its own methods of operation, its own vocabulary, unique systems and types of gambling, as well as marketing programs. The casino resort is vulnerable to theft and fraud using the property’s systems and games against itself. The gaming investigator should understand the differences and similarities between gaming crime and traditional crime. Applying fundamental investigation techniques within the gaming environment requires a thorough understanding of gaming operations, regulations and controls, marketing programs and the games themselves.
