ABSTRACT
In this chapter we discuss the importance of conducting an objective and impartial investigation. In the gaming environment as well as many others there can be many distractions, pressures and motivations to solve a case including the investigator’s own thoughts and beliefs. It is necessary for investigators to understand and even expect such pressure and distractions, and to remain impartial. It is also easy to become too focused on one theory or individual based on initial information and investigate based on that premise alone. Investigators should always consider the potential for confirmation bias.
