ABSTRACT

Depending on size of the line, a project plan may be required or desired. The project plan captures the results of the analysis providing milestone dates; a timeline and status for the ongoing project to ensure the scope and project achieve the desired results. Takt time (TT) allows one to review a process or a group of activities and determine, based on customer demand and available time, how fast a process needs to run related to time. Cycle time is calculated in different ways, but each should have the same result. Inventory is divided into three basic types: raw material, work in process, and finished goods. Value-stream mapping (VSM) has become an important tool in Lean implementations, particularly in understanding the current state of a transactional process and identifying the opportunities in which any process can be improved. VSMs can be used as an analysis tool to determine if steps can be eliminated or simplified to create the future state.
