ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 provides an overview of floods, tsunamis, wildfires, hurricanes, and hazardous materials releases. The discussion includes a review of the basic mechanics of the hazard, how it poses a threat to human health and safety, areas typically affected, how the hazard is analyzed, how it is monitored, and forecast information. These hazards strike too fast for spontaneous relocation but slow enough that evacuation is an appropriate protective action, thus requiring evacuation management.
