ABSTRACT

This chapter explores a number of topics related to user education and training, including positioning, curriculum, and best practices. It examines by reviewing several psychological principles and mechanisms to position users to receive greatest benefits of training. The chapter also explores importance of top management support, it remains informative to review examples of exactly what that support looks and feels like in action. It also examines the impact of mandating training as opposed to positioning it as a voluntary exercise. The chapter analyzes the vast landscape of considerations firms should evaluate when planning user education initiatives. It discusses that timing, voluntariness, and management cues about training are important precursors to training success. The chapter considers mental paradigms which can be implemented to improve users' likelihood to absorb material and walk away from training with increased confidence about the system. It understands that different modes of training shown themselves to be effective including classroom training, video modules, and printed cheat sheets.
