ABSTRACT

Healthcare experiences that authors share with family and others are typically presented as a story because it is as a story that they are able to create a sense of the connections between the events and the feelings that together form the memories and meanings of what occurred. In the current sociotechnical epoch of healthcare, it is important to recognize that the social environment and the technological environment are shaping the information available to the people involved and their views. The healthcare organization has created a delivery process involving a healthcare professional, office staff, office facility, and all the necessary support services. People receiving care, people delivering care, and the healthcare organizations share a partnership in creating meaningful healthcare experiences in the sociotechnical epoch of American healthcare. Recognizing that meaning in healthcare experiences emerges out of the alignment of beliefs, values, and principles is important for organizations that develop the processes for delivering healthcare.
