ABSTRACT

The health care market is composed of a system of connected users. Smartly designed interventions can spread rapidly and might trigger a big impact. Entrepreneurial concepts designed to incorporate infectious effects can spread like the flu. Concepts that are timed to launch and coincide with external momentum can ride the wave to success. Human behavior is strongly affected and shaped by the way people are connected together. Our life is full of networks. There are physical networks, as the neural network of brains, the electrical power grid, the pager network in a hospital and the World Wide Web. The health care system is riddled with pressure: pressure to cut budgets, time pressure to fit in more patients and time pressure to cure as fast as possible. This leads to the need to quickly judge the facts of a situation, recognize patterns and define a solution or treatment.
