ABSTRACT

The forecast is out of our control, it represents something that we think is going to happen in the world around us. But if the forecast does not equal the target, we can take action to bring the forecast closer to our target. There are two reasons why these forecasts are so important in scheme of things. One is to enable a 'gap analysis' to be performed; that is, to calculate the 'gap' between the target and the forecast. The second reason is that, in order to make a forecast, one has to examine the past and that is where one may find some more elephants. Forecasting in non-profit-making organizations is sometimes no more difficult than in companies. This method of forecasting reveals such a profusion of information about the organization, the planning team should make real and genuine efforts to follow this part of the process.
