ABSTRACT

The research presented in The Healthy Mind establishes that (1) the egoless mind is a healthy mind, (2) the egocentric mind is an unhealthy mind and (3) it is possible to empirically study the phenomena that appear in the stream of consciousness. Yet, given the prevailing scientific paradigm of the last century, our findings must be seen as the preliminary findings of a pilot study. Chapter 13 sketches out what further work will have to be done to evaluate, replicate and establish the validity of our findings. It does so by discussing the nature of universals in science, and by chronicling the universals that our study of the healthy mind and the stream of consciousness has brought to light. Chapter 13 suggests that a next round of research should focus on investigating and establishing the validity of these universals, and it concludes with a call for research on the feasibility of cultivating an egoless mind.
