ABSTRACT

Gaining an understanding of an individual’s change management skills provides a good basis for individual development. This chapter describes a questionnaire on change management skills. These skills have been identified from research into a wide range of management jobs across a range of change management settings and situations. In consequence the manager running the performance review meeting needs to develop higher-level presentation skills, team-building skills and feedback skills. These are skills development needs. Possible actions to meet these needs include attending a presentation skills course, and restructuring the performance review meetings by interspersing shorter presentations with problem-solving sessions where groups of managers work on problems identified in the presentation. The presentations skills course will improve the level of skills, shorter presentations are likely to be more focused and draw a better audience response, and problem solving involves people, builds teams and presents opportunities for feedback.
