ABSTRACT

The art of writing began in Egypt and was carried by the Stellar Cult people to all countries wherever they went, in the ideographic, hieroglyphic, lesser or mixed form, probably throughout the Mediterranean Basin first. Bull's Head amulets were found by Jean Capart in Egypt, and may be compared with those found in the Mediterranean Basin. The value of amulets found in Egypt lies in showing what such things were like in the Fifth Dynasty and before. Before Dynastic times the Egyptian potters placed their private marks on the pottery they made; this proves that the pots were not always made at home, but that there were special factories whose goods were distinguished by their marks. As Egypt was then famous for the sciences and arts, the Greeks, who were beginning to emerge from barbarism, travelled thither to obtain knowledge, which they might afterwards communicate to their countrymen.
