BothnazismandtheWeimarRepublicarefruitsofthe fertileGermannineteenthcentury:nazism,fromtheJahn andWagnerundercurrentoftheWarofLiberationand 1848;theWeimarRepublic,fromtheliberaltop-current ofthesesametworevolutions.Justaswesternersexaggeratedtheliberalismof1813and1848,sotheyexaggeratedtherepublicanismoftheWeimarRepublic,which nevercontainedsomanyrepublicansaswethenthought:.
