ABSTRACT

Transactional Analysis (TA) is a philosophy, a point of view about people. The overall purpose of TA, either with individuals or with groups, "is to open doors of power, of insight, and of healing to the participants". Educating clients about the ego states and strokes is an important part of TA. TA helps the clients to gain insight and understanding of their patterns and behaviors in their many transactions with others. The development of trust is essential to participation in a TA group. The therapist's behavior is going to aid or hinder this trust development. Some TA practitioners primarily deal with the issue of trust within the group setting. Generally, the selection of participants in TA groups is made at random. Groups which are homogeneous are a result of either planning or personal policy. Some TA therapists do find that it is helpful to form groups based on the particular problem which the person is experiencing.
