ABSTRACT

This chapter defines a first-level factor as an objective element of the situation in which the respondent finds a source for his good or bad feelings about the job. It describes the criteria for each of the categories so that the reader can understand clearly just what we mean when we refer to them in the further course of the discussion of the findings. These factors are not listed in the order of their importance but in the order of their appearance in the coding scheme. The material analyzed for second-level factors came from a respondent's answer to the question, "What did these events mean to you". In one of the most valuable analyses we identified the first-level factor or factors from which the respondent derived his feelings. For each sequence of events the second-level factors were identified and the derivation of each from the first-level factors was indicated.
