ABSTRACT
The mass-arrest in Toronto, in Summer 2006, of 17 Muslim co-plotters who were scheming a major act of terror, awakened the Canadians the way September 11 shook up the Americans, and 7/7 snatched the British out of their torpor. One of the most popular ways to recruit prospective terrorists among the young Muslim population is via the plethora of websites that have been set up. In Canada, a test was established to systematize the uncontrollable flow of Muslim immigrants in general, but specifically to target Muslim immigrants, some of whom are now perceived as threatening Canadian national security. The Canadian test looks at the rights and responsibilities of citizens as well as basic knowledge about the country. The questions as of now test basic knowledge of Canadian history and the constitution, and are a first hurdle requiring the new incomers to demonstrate their keen interest in their new homeland.
