Of all of Virginia Woolf’s novels, I single out for discussion Mrs. Dalloway, published in 1925. I do so because it contains an exceptionally perceptive portrait of a typical English psychiatrist of the time, as well as a devastating criticism of psychiatric practice, as valid today as it was then.
