ABSTRACT
The fear of being invaded, penetrated, defiled—violated in body, mind, or spirit—played a crucial role at every juncture in Virginia’s life, most notably in childhood and at the end of her life. It is the most constant and most characteristic feature of her personality and is consistent with her attitude toward psychoanalysis.
