ABSTRACT
Herman was born in 1917. Like his parents, and great grandparents he was an agricultural labourer all his life. He has always lived in Barbados, with the exception of a brief time working in the United States. His younger brother, Roy, went regularly to the United States, and he had a number of uncles and aunts who had migrated there. He and his wife have one child, their son Vernon, who was the first of this family to come to England. Herman also had a daughter from another partner, who was brought up by his wife.
