ABSTRACT

In this final chapter we shall summarize the patterns of agrarian and social development in the Jasper region with the use of concepts based on our adaptational approach. Our objective is to suggest how such concepts permit a level of generalization embracing both market agrarian societies and those not fully accommodated to market conditions. Therefore we believe that the differences between farming and peasant societies sometimes have been exaggerated by economists and anthropologists because both have neglected to study certain fundamental ecological and economic processes.
