ABSTRACT

Liddell Hart, British military commentator and historian, visited Israel in March 1960. In a meeting with Israeli officers, he stressed that the IDF’s greatest danger lies in its success; victorious armies become over-confident. The Israeli Army was then after two victories over the Arabs. Meanwhile another two have been added; the impressive victory of 1967, and the disruption of Arab plans in the War of Attrition and for the fedayin organizations. It was only natural to be self-confident, and 30so Liddell Hart’s warning came partially true. The mood could be summed up in one sentence: “The Arabs wouldn’t dare!”
