ABSTRACT

Important news comes from far away, south of the Red Sea. From the bridge of a fuel-laden tanker, en route to the port of Eilat, the First Officer sees the wake of a torpedo approaching the ship. It misses its mark, passing behind the stern. The First Officer could perhaps have convinced himself that his eyes were playing tricks, but it was followed by a second torpedo. A heavily laden tanker has very slight chances of evading a torpedo but, luckily, the dispatchers are inexpert. It also passes under the stern, though somewhat closer. There can be no doubt that the torpedoes were fired by an Egyptian submarine. The tanker carries a foreign flag, but the Egyptians must have a list of ships that carry fuel to Israel.
