ABSTRACT
The Navy’s ships return to port after yet another night’s operations. The ships can’t win the war, but the sea is the only arena in which the IDF’s success is total. The Navy is so far the only consistent bringer of glad tidings. In the Six Day War, it suffered many setbacks. This time, it was 167prepared. The backbone of the fighting force is provided by 14 modern missile ships, of which the two largest were built in Israel. All are equipped with sea-to-sea Gabriel missiles. The tactic is to take war to the enemy. The Egyptian Navy has 24 missile ships, 12 submarines and 5 destroyers. The only way to prevent it approaching the Israeli coast is to do battle in Egyptian home ports.
