ABSTRACT

Daylight neither helps the paratroops, nor lessens the bombardment. The entire Egyptian effort is directed at the dirt track, and the road south of it. On the canal banks, where the first paratroop unit crossed into Africa, it’s much quieter. Overnight, and at dawn, the ferries carried additional vehicles across and there are now 36 Israeli tanks on the west bank; a force capable of inflicting injuries, but hardly an armored fist for a major offensive.
