ABSTRACT

The IDF’s front-line successes have transferred the point of gravity to Washington and Moscow. The Kremlin wants a cease-fire on the Egyptian front, before it is too late. There are only a few score Egyptian tanks facing the IDF forces on the west bank, and the Russians have no way of knowing that Israel isn’t interested in Cairo. No relationship exists between Israel and the Soviet Union, but there are unofficial contacts between Washington and Egypt. If the Kremlin could be sure that Israel doesn’t intend to take Cairo, her reactions might be less sharp.
