ABSTRACT
Deputy Chief of Staff Maj.-General Yisrael Tal’s fears are growing. He intended this evening to dine with Nehemia Keen, the Quartermaster-General. Tal has just returned from a conference with the Chief of Staff, in which he recommended sending a standing army tank unit to Golan – or mobilizing a reserve armored unit for the purpose. He orders Yigal, his Head of Bureau, to cancel the date with Keen, and asks Eli Zeira, the Head of Intelligence Branch, to join him for a coffee and to set up a meeting with one of his senior assistants – Brigadier Aryeh Shalev.
