ABSTRACT
Patterns of retirement also vary between the self-employed and those who are work ing for hire. T h e self-employed person has a choice of ret i r ing gradual ly either by reducing the number of hours (and days) he actual ly works or by employing more assistance, or of cont inuing to work past the usual retirement age. U n l i k e most self-employed persons, many employees have to retire completely on reaching a fixed age l imi t , and many have no choice between work ing full-time and not work ing at a l l .
