ABSTRACT

The first and second epistles include the only some verses in the Bible where the term "antichrist" is used, three times in John 2:18; 2:22; 4:1–3, and once in John 1:7. According to Raymond E. Brown, John's discussion of the antichrist must be seen in light of his belief that the world is in its final hour. The term has relevance in contemporary American politics because some believe that President Barack Obama is the antichrist. Avalon could have also noted that Revelation never uses the term "antichrist" either. But John could never know how the term "antichrist" would be used nearly two thousand years later. But it seems likely he would be amazed. However, the John who wrote Revelation reports that he is transmitting a revelation from Jesus. Jesus could have known about the future development of Islam.
