ABSTRACT
T H E QUESTION of basic type rises from the common observation that men can háve power without wanting it, or want power without having it. The playing of a role in politics, therefore, does not háve the samé meaning to different persons. The conception of a political type is that some personalities are power seekers, searching out the power institutions of the society into which they are born and devoting themselves to the capture and use of government.
