ABSTRACT

The overall social field has in effect been purposely reduced to separate little fields within an overall antifield, the organization, in order to achieve some common task. The antifield has been created by the power of a few or one person to build an organization in order to achieve some goal, hire those who become its members, and command and control them. Power has created the antifield. The idea of an antifield thus has practical and empirical meaning and captures an essential aspect of some societies, specifically those organized in a tight hierarchy of power. The antifield begins with trying to impose on a society some common goal or task, no matter what it may be. This initiates the conflict front that may span the society and along which violence may occur. Social fields are converted into antifields a spontaneous society is turned into an organization.
