ABSTRACT

The general “common knowledge” the pre-millennium week is that it is America’s much-vaunted freedom that has so inspired the world. The America has had; that is America’s genius. It is to be found in the civil rights revolution, in equal opportunities for women, in the information revolution, in the globalized economic revolution and in the spreading of the American developmental “gospel.” the process that began with the internal structures of America went on to structure the entire world in its own image. The IMF, the World Bank, USAID, North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the WTO and the entire alphabet soup of international organizations: These are America’s true twentieth-century children. The small countries that have developed well in this century have followed formulas that are remarkably similar to America’s: flexible structures that blend responsible representative government with economic freedom and evolutionary development.
