ABSTRACT
The rehab staffs wants patients' families to be interested in their family members who are patients on the unit, but they do not want them to be so interested that they interfere with rehab service procedures. An outside private physician with an interest in the case of a patient on rehab can be particularly helpful to that patient in seeing to it that he receives more effective attention. What do patients do when they believe they are not getting proper care through the prescribed route? Patients frequently make their own way to the PT gyms by wheelchair or on foot even though they have been placed on the messenger service. The most successful paraplegic patient made a point of keeping the lower part of his body in frequent motion and provided much of his own skin care to prevent the development of skin lesions which were so common among his fellows.
