ABSTRACT

The development of the modern state provides a particularly good illustration of how the engineering of space becomes dominant, and the cultural change process has a strong effect even on religions' mapping of territories. The natural space is transformed into a cultural space such that the map is a re-creation of the terrain. Education and pedagogics within the fields of art, museums, religion, and environmental studies offers unforeseen and rich possibilities for making citizens aware of the moral problems of space. Furthermore, the idea of ecological justice is obviously a strong counterbalance to the pragmatic theory of eco-management which has gained influence in environmental politics and strategies for change in capitalistic production and consumption. The utopization of the global space has many expressions, and a mapping of this area would require a whole research project. Ecofeminists have tried to analyze this space-based eco-spirituality in terms of a goddess faith in Mother Earth and Gaia.
