ABSTRACT

Of all the Young Turk leaders on the blacklist of the Armenian avengers, Enver Pasha is the one who attempted to go farthest in pursuit of his war and the realization of the Ittihad's great pan-Turkist project. At the time of the flight of the leading Unionists to Odessa, following the capitulation of Mudros, Enver was the only one who stayed some time in the Crimea, intending to board a ship in Sebastopol or Simferopol to reach the Caucasus. In the Ferghana, in the province of Samarkand, in Turkmenia and as far as the Khiva oasis, the Basmachis, solidly organized, but still not yet federated under Enver's control, ceaselessly harassed the reinforcements sent by the Russians. The struggle embarked on by Enver Pasha is said to have constituted a breach in the united front of the Muslim world.
