ABSTRACT

The next basic similarity between Russia and America lies in the psychology and mentality of the two nations. By this similarity is not meant, of course, either identity or complete homogeneity of mental, emotional, affective, and volitional characteristics. The Russian soul is commonly supposed to be diametrically opposed to the alleged âme américaine. Moreover, the United States has been absorbing the cultural values of other countries such as Latin America, Europe, Asia, and Africa to an extent rivaled possibly only by Russia. In this respect the parallel of the universal soul of the United States with that of Russia is rather striking. A similar propensity is disclosed by America's unique role in serving the cause of liberty, charity, religion, and a host of other values throughout almost the entire world. During and after the First World War it has played the leading part in relief activities during famines, wars, and like emergencies.
